Good News from MN FCA

Shelley Pearson • Nov 10, 2020
God moved in hearts and lives through the ministry of FCA in 2020, and there is no doubt He will continue to draw others to Himself through FCA during 2021. Our focus for the remainder of this year is raising support to expand Urban Ministry and Leadership Development in Minnesota. Some incredible things are already happening in these two areas:

Urban Ministry

Phil is a Bethel College student who grew up in urban St. Paul under difficult circumstances. He was headed down the wrong path until a mentor stepped into his life. Phil met Jesus, and his life changed course.

While 2020 has been a year of incredible unrest in our cities, God has worked in and through the challenges. Today, Phil and other Bethel athletes serve as mentors at four Minneapolis high schools through FCA. They are influencing young people with the Gospel as they do life together. Like Phil, the lives of these young athletes are changing course.

The potential to reach more urban athletes like Phil is great. As Jesus said in Matthew 9:37-8, “The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.” Our year-end goal is to raise $50,000 for:

  • Two-three additional staff members to serve urban high schools
  • Scholarships for urban athletes to attend retreats and camps
  • Resources such as Bibles, training materials, or food for special events

Leadership Development

Anna is a high school student who attended FCA’s Leadership Camp. Her experience at camp catapulted her from being a shy girl who rarely spoke in her FCA huddle to a courageous leader who organized a Fields of Faith outreach event. Anna shared her faith story in front of a crowd of 150 that night and continues to share her faith with various groups today as she serves as a leader in her FCA huddle.

Anna would never have had the confidence to lead or share her faith story in front of a large crowd if it hadn’t been for Leadership Camp. Our year-end goal of $50,000 will provide:

  • Scholarships for athletes to attend Leadership Camp and other leadership training
  • Resources for more coaches around the state to participate in 3D Coaches Training
  • FCA staff training around leadership development
