To and Through the Coach

Emily Werness • Jun 04, 2019

Coaches have a special and influential platform to grow and develop their students, not just as athletes, but as people. It is a great opportunity to share Christ and his love. The dedication of most coaches combined with the fast-paced world of today hardly allow for coaches to rest or spend as much time with their families as they would like. This can lead to exhaustion and burnout pretty quickly. One of the ways FCA tries to help with this is by putting on a coaches retreat each year - a weekend for coaches and their spouses to get away, be poured into, and just spend time together. Coach Tim Nelson (Rogers, MN) and his wife, Susan, have been able to attend a couple of these retreats and it has made a significant difference. As he puts it, “The weekends have been a blessing for us. The fellowship that we have with other Christian teachers and coaches through these weekends is invaluable. As a couple, it’s a highlight of our FCA experience sharing in fellowship together with other coaching couples.”

That’s the hope. Through retreats, bible studies, and one-on-one relationships with FCA staff, FCA hopes to build into and empower coaches so they are able to minister in their realm of influence - to their families, their athletes, and their campuses.
