God's Perfect Timing: Welcoming Tyler Luethje to South Central Minnesota FCA

Tanja Hansen • October 29, 2026

Minnesota FCA is excited to welcome Tyler Luethje as the new Area Director for South Central Minnesota! With a lifelong passion for sports, a background in recreation and coaching, and a heart for serving others, Tyler brings a unique combination of experience and passion to this role. But perhaps the most remarkable part of his journey is how God has been preparing him for this calling, even through circumstances Tyler never would have expected.

A Lifelong Passion for Sports and Serving Others

Growing up in Iowa, Tyler played nearly every sport he could, eventually focusing on football and basketball. His love for athletics led him to South Dakota State University, where he played football and earned a degree in Parks and Recreation Management, specializing in recreation.

After graduation, Tyler spent a year coaching football at South Dakota State before beginning a career in recreation, overseeing youth and adult sports programs and community events. He also spent time coaching high school football.

For the past nine and a half years, Tyler has served as the Parks Director for Le Sueur County, overseeing the county's parks, campgrounds, and outdoor recreation operations.

But several years ago, God opened another door.

Tyler was presented with an opportunity to serve as a corporate chaplain, providing spiritual and personal care to employees at businesses in the Mankato area. It wasn't something he had been actively pursuing, but he took the step of faith.

Looking back, he recognizes how God used that opportunity to grow his heart for ministry.

"I think it opened up the door and opened up my heart to wanting to do more in this profession," Tyler shared.

What began as an unexpected opportunity became an important step toward God's calling on his life.

Learning to Trust God's Provision

Fellowship of Christian Athletes wasn't new to Tyler. He had been exposed to FCA in both high school and college, participating occasionally even before his faith had fully taken root.

Years later, as his relationship with Jesus deepened, Tyler found himself repeatedly considering an opportunity to join FCA staff in South Central Minnesota.

There was just one significant obstacle: raising financial support.

Like other FCA field staff, Tyler would be responsible for building a team of ministry partners who would financially support both his position and the ministry taking place throughout his area. Leaving a stable career to step into a support-raised ministry position was a difficult decision.

For more than a year, Tyler considered applying, but couldn't quite bring himself to take that step.

Meanwhile, God was teaching Tyler and his family an important lesson about trusting Him.

Approximately three years ago, Tyler and his wife, Heather, felt called to grow their family through international adoption. They began the lengthy process of paperwork, home studies, and waiting to be matched with a child in Bulgaria.

Along with the emotional challenges and uncertainty of adoption came a significant financial undertaking. Through fundraising, grants, scholarships, and the generosity of others, God provided nearly the entire $60,000 needed for their adoption.

That experience profoundly changed Tyler's perspective on stepping into FCA ministry.

"When you feel called to do something, and you're obedient to it, if you put in the work, God will provide," Tyler shared.

He went on to explain that without the experience of fundraising for their adoption, he doesn't believe he would have had the trust in the Lord necessary to accept a support-raised position with FCA.

And God's preparation didn't stop there.

Over the past several years, Tyler had also been building relationships throughout his community, both professionally and personally. As his faith grew, so did his network of people who had witnessed his character, his commitment to his family, and his heart for serving others.

Connections that didn't exist five years ago became relationships through which God would provide support for this next chapter.

What once seemed like an impossible career transition became possible through God's faithful provision and perfect timing.

A Growing Family and a New Chapter

Tyler and Heather, a public health nurse for Rice County, live in South Central Minnesota with their three children: Lincoln (10), Beau (8), and Boone (7).

Their family is also eagerly anticipating the arrival of their fourth child, Biser, a five-year-old boy from Bulgaria.

After years of waiting, the family recently traveled to Bulgaria together to meet Biser for the first time. Their children had the opportunity to spend time with their new brother, play together, and begin building relationships that will continue when he comes home.

The Luethjes anticipate returning to Bulgaria this spring to bring Biser home.

It's a season filled with change for their family, but also a beautiful reminder of God's faithfulness as they follow His leading, both in their home and in ministry.

Building on a Strong Foundation in South Central Minnesota

Tyler steps into a ministry area with a strong foundation and tremendous opportunities for continued growth.

South Central Minnesota FCA currently serves a region encompassing 55 campus communities, 22 FCA Huddles, four summer camps, and an annual golf tournament.

For the past several years, Area Representative Adam Paulson has faithfully served as Interim Area Director while continuing his full-time responsibilities ministering to coaches, supporting FCA Huddles, equipping adult volunteers and student leaders, and coordinating camps and events.

Alongside Adam, part-time Ambassador Bob Spiegler and part-time Administrative Assistant Nedra Patenaude have helped sustain and strengthen ministry throughout the area.

We are incredibly grateful for their faithful service and commitment to reaching coaches and athletes with the Gospel!

With Tyler stepping into the Area Director role, there is now an opportunity to build upon that foundation, provide additional leadership and support, and prayerfully expand the reach of FCA throughout South Central Minnesota.

Tyler is especially excited about growing ministry beyond existing campus Huddles, including expanding opportunities through camps, leagues, and club sports.

He also hopes to strengthen relationships with local colleges, including Minnesota State University, Mankato, by encouraging collegiate athletes to become more involved in their surrounding communities and creating opportunities for athletes across sports to grow together in their faith.

One of his greatest desires is to see schools, teams, and communities come together as one body of Christ, united by something far greater than competition.

As the ministry grows, Tyler also hopes to recruit additional FCA staff to reach more coaches and athletes throughout the area.

Looking Ahead with Great Expectation

When Tyler reflects on the journey that brought him to FCA, he can see how God has been working through every season.

From his years as an athlete and coach to his professional experience in recreation, from an unexpected opportunity in chaplaincy to the lessons of faith and provision learned through adoption, God has been preparing Tyler for this moment.

And while the journey hasn't always been easy or predictable, the Lord has faithfully made a way.

We give God all the glory for calling Tyler into FCA ministry, preparing his heart for this work, and providing the relationships and resources necessary for him to step forward in obedience.

As Tyler begins this new chapter, we are prayerfully expectant for all that God will do in and through him, his family, and the entire South Central Minnesota FCA team.

Please join us in welcoming Tyler to Team FCA and praying for him as he leads the ministry forward! May God continue to open doors, raise up ministry partners and leaders, and transform the lives of coaches and athletes throughout South Central Minnesota through the power of the Gospel.

To God be the glory!
