Across Ages and Stages of Life

God Uses Camps for Lasting Impact

The Regional Sports Camp highlighted in this month’s video is just one of many camps that take place each summer. From local youth sports camps to sport-specific camps to Leadership Camp for high school students, there’s something for everyone.

And not just for campers.

Campers are certainly the why behind FCA camps – they’re at the very heart. Camps provide an opportunity to have fun with friends, meet new people, and grow in a sport, but most importantly, camps direct them to Jesus Christ; how His truth and love changes everything.

But campers are not the only ones you’ll find at an FCA camp. Huddle Leaders, ranging from high school to college age serve as camp counselors. They are the energy and fuel on which camps run. It provides a ministry opportunity to give away what they have learned, to listen, and to love like Jesus – not just to their campers, but to each other, parents, and staff! Many Huddle Leaders have found some of their closest friends at an FCA camp; not just another social group to hang out with on a Friday night, but a group actively seeking to live like Jesus, a lifestyle of learning and growing. The kind that provides encouragement as well as challenges; the kind that feels like family.

Campers and Huddle Leaders make up the younger crowd at camps, but there are several adult volunteers and staff (both up front and behind the scenes) serving as the backbone of camp. From speakers to coaches to registrars to nurses, adults of multiple ages are represented. For adults, camp provides the opportunity to minister to young people – to help them grow in their sport, character, and faith. It also creates a space for fellowship and connection with each other.

So much of what campers, Huddle Leaders, and adult staff and volunteers experience goes beyond the timeframe of the few days spent at camp, as you heard in some of the testimonies (check out Abby Orvis’ camp testimony as well).

Camps are another classic example of how God takes all kinds of people from different backgrounds, locations, and giftings and brings them together for His purpose – to make Christ known.
